Ad Hoc Classes - call 647 667 2259 to create flexible classes
Scheduling is difficult in this crazy world. We don’t always have the same day or night off every week. By the time we do find out what our days off we are going to be, most of the classes we’re interested in have already filled up. But, still, the need for calming and enjoyable recreation is high ... higher than ever. What shall we do?
Keep calm … and “ad hoc” your pottery classes.
For the same price of a regular pottery class you are now able to pick and choose the 4 dates that best work for you for your pottery experience. Not all of our classes fill up and, even when they do, class participants often also find that life gets in their way of what they love to do. When they end up needing a make-up class elsewhere, they free up spots in their class for someone else to take. Moreover, when the need is high, we will add ah hoc classes based on the collective preference of our ah hoc community.
Our next session of classes starts soon, so we already have an idea of what classes will have room. It is possible for someone to pick four classes now. Alternatively, you could pick your first class now and wait to find out your availability before picking your next class.
A note of warning: If your first two (or three) sessions are going to be 10 days or more apart, make sure you wrap the pieces you threw (or hand-built) well so they are still moist enough for you to trim the next time you come in.
Ad Hoc classes also work well for those who have little interest in waiting an entire week between classes (although they will often need to wait at least a week before glazing their pieces because we need time to fire your pieces).
Please also let us know if you like to join our email “ad hoc” community list and we will let you know when spots suddenly become available.
Other than the regularity of the classes, Ad Hoc participants will find their classes have the same feel and practical aspects of our other potter classes. For your convenience, the "Pottery Classes" section of our website is included below:
Our registered classes are comprised of four weekly classes (one class per week at the same time for 4 continuous weeks, excepting holidays). We support all levels of experience and each class will be organized to best suit the needs of its students. These classes are recommended for adults.
Each class is scheduled for 2-1/2 hours (with the last 15 minutes scheduled for wrap and clean-up). One instructor and all materials are provided and participants can make pieces by "throwing" on the wheel or hand-building (or a combination of the two). Pieces will be fired in our kiln approximately three weeks after the pieces have completely dried. Participants may arrange for artwork pickup after that time.
We strive to maintain an intimate setting - and there is a comfortable seating area (and, often, Persian tea) for art breaks - and therefore cap the group size at a maximum of 8 individuals.
We understand that scheduling conflicts arise in the crazy and stressful outside world and therefore offer makeup classes wherever their is availability. Missed classes should, however, be made up during the session in which they occur. Make-up slots are distributed on a "first-come-first-serve" basis and are available not only to those who have registered for classes but also to those coming on an "ad-hoc" basis. A makeup class will only be awarded if Chromatic Earth Pottery is informed of the missed class at least 5 hours before the class is scheduled to start. Only one make-up class is permitted per participant per session.
Each student is supplied with all the tools they need and a third of a block of clay. Glazing and firing are included for pieces made from that initial amount of clay. Extra clay is available for especially productive students at a price of $40 per 1/3 block ( plus HST), with glazing and firing of additional pieces costing $10 or $20 (depending on the size of the piece). All provided clay and artwork are to be worked on exclusively during studio sessions: taking clay or pieces home before the end of the four-week session is not permitted. Likewise, all tools and equipment are the property of Chromatic Earth Pottery and cannot be borrowed for use outside of the studio.
Note: This is not a physical product, just a registration fee for in-person classes, no physical product will be shipped to your address.
