We have two kilns available for hire: our larger kiln is 28”x28”x25" (width, width - octagonal, depth) (9.9 cubic ft.) and the smaller one is 11”x11"x9” deep (2.2 cubic ft.).
The smaller kiln has, at most, two levels and the price for renting this kiln is $70 per firing.
The larger kiln has, at most, four levels and the price for renting one shelf of this kiln is $90 per firing and the price to rent a firing for this entire kiln is $240.
Our technician will be the only person permitted to load and unload the kiln.
Please ensure all pieces are fully dry when you submit your pieces for firing. You must inform our technician on the type of clay and/or glaze utilized for your creations, along with the recommended firing temperature specifications. If we don’t know what we’re firing, we won’t fire it. Any damage to the kiln caused by your clay or glaze is your responsibility. A $200 damage fee will be charged before the firing which will be returned once the firing is completed and you come pick up your items.
The bottom of each piece (plus 2 mm on the side) must be well cleaned, with no traces of glaze. Cracking or breaking of pieces can occur at any time. Chromatic Earth Pottery does not take responsibility for pieces damaged during the firing process. Any damage to the kiln shelving or posts due to submitted clay or glazes will be the responsibility of the renter and a replacement fee will apply. All firing fees must be paid before pieces are to be fired. We give our students priority for kiln space but turnaround times are, never-the-less, quite quick. All pieces must be labeled by the creator. Items must be picked up within two weeks of being fired or will be subjected to a storage fee.
